Spending quality beach vacations is what people are after when coming to Southwest Florida. And it’s safe to say that the region does not disappoint. This is all thanks to beaches like the Barefoot Beach in Bonita Springs. This critically acclaimed beach area is relatively close to the urban areas of the region yet the beach does not make you feel like you’re in a developed area. Instead, it just shows you white sands, sea birds, turtles, calm waves and the best sunset in the world. The beach is part of the Barefoot Beach Preserve County Park that’s why you get to see these occasional wildlife animals every now and then while walking along the beach.

Although close to the civilization, Barefoot Beach is not developed since it is a part of a nature park and so does the rest of the preserve which covers 342 acres of land. And all the hard work that had been put in preserving the beach is worth it since the praises for this mile-long beach does not end in anecdotal accounts. This beach constantly gets recognition from Dr. Beach who always puts Barefoot Beach somewhere in his Top Ten list of Best Beaches every year for at least ten years straight.

The thing that attracts many people here, especially the families is the fact that Barefoot beach has very calm waves, and a shallow water. This is perfect for the kids who would like to play in the water. Another thing is that there are many shells in the beach which you can take home with you, provided you don’t take the shells that have some sort of life from in them. Sand dollars are the ones that are commonly found and they look adorable. Since the beach is part of a preserve, there will be animals that can be found in your stay. There are the bottle-nosed dolphins that play along the shallows, as if saying hi to all the people around. There is even a hiking trail deep in the island, away from the beaches. There’s a wooden boardwalk that serve as your trail and guide. There are green trees and plants and Gopher tortoises that hide in their burrows. The nature trail is spectacular and is a great alternative to the beach or you can do them both.

Within the preserve, there’s also a kayaking trail. This is popular to those who want to contend with the tribal creeks plus the lush mangrove forests with their large roots. Kayaks can be rented from the beach. You can do this out in the open  and even on the smaller sections of the beach. The Barefoot beach boasts a virgin beauty and a very healthy vegetation. You should come to the beach.
