Southwest Florida is famed for its beaches and with it comes water sports. This is why personal watercrafts are so popular among tourists, especially around Fort Myers. While physically, you won’t be leaving Southwest Florida, the warm breeze and the sound of the waves transport you to another world. The singing of the sea gulls and the sparkling of the sea, like floating diamonds give a sense of relaxation like no other, and the dolphins, the perfect company for this amazing journey. They jump around in schools and have no problem getting close to tourists, as if they are the tourist guide themselves.

Beaches around Fort Myers have no shortage of rental companies that provide Jet-skis and small boats to those who would like to go far off land to see the sights and get some much needed solitude for themselves, a break from the hustle and bustle of the life on land. If you need some time to reflect on how your year or your whole life had been, the aquatic wildlife and the sea birds will help you with your meditation by just being on the background and doing their thing while you find the answers you seek.

Or, if being alone isn’t your thing, you’d be pleased to know that everyday, there are tours conducted led by tourist guides that cater to groups, some as many as eight individuals. These guides know the area very well and many of them grew up in the area so they know these waterways and the surrounding lands like the back of their hand. They also know where the dolphins can be usually found and where the other sea creatures are like the manatees like to hang out, as well as the sea turtles. Your presence their won’t disturb these creatures and some would even seem to welcome your presence instead, like the dolphins.

And the tourists themselves seem to like it. Records on the watercraft rental shops and testimonies indicate that many would like to go for a ride next year and some already have, going back to the place twice or thrice. This is also why competition is fierce amongst these rental shops, especially on the jet-ski. This means you may have to make a reservation before showing up. But all that is worth it; the power of cutting through the waves and leaving a trail of foam in your wake, the loud roar of your machine and the sense of freedom of being out in the ocean, as if conquering Nature itself is definitely an awesome experience.

The great thing about riding on a personal watercraft on the waves of Southwest Florida is precisely because there are not much waves on the waters. Things are pretty calm as far as waves go, so this means more opportunities for small boats and there’s less danger for jet-skis to go on about for the entire day or for whatever part of the year, except of course when there’s a storm about but when that happens, the rental companies won’t allow their watercrafts to be rented anyway so that’s all nice and good. But overall, watersports among casual tourists is very popular over here in Southwest Florida and you should give it a try.
