Naples, Florida is a child-friendly place. And when it’s Christmas time, establishments put up decorations that fit the season. Santa decorations are up everywhere and Christmas lights illuminate the alfresco dining spots. There is also a giant Christmas tree that’s set up somewhere in the downtown area every year. There are also music bands and choirs and treats for kids all around downtown. One of the museums, Naples Historical Society’s Palm Cottage, offers Christmas treats for their children visitors during the holidays. Now, everybody knows how pretty the beaches are, the whole world does, but we’d like for you to take the time and appreciate the Christmas events that happen in the town. Whenever Christmas is fast approaching, the entire town goes out to Fifth Avenue South and bursts into a festive parade of lights, color, food and music. Dance troupes, marching bands, girls and boy scouts, fire engines and colorfully designed floats come into life in this annual celebration of community get together. People are always excited to come yearly for this spectacle.

History:

Naples has a long and vibrant customs of celebrating Christmas. A Christmas event that’s worth mentioning is the Tuba Christmas. In this event, traditional Christmas medleys are played by an ensemble of tuba players to give a nod to our heritage and the great honor that was given to the tuba artists by their teachers and also as a salute to all artists and players of musical instruments from all parts of the globe. The event began in 1974 when Harvey Phillips wanted to give something back to his tuba teacher William J. Bell, show him what he learned from him by offering a little tribute and from then on other musicians took notice of this and made their own tribute to their respective teachers.  So, this tribute of one man to his teacher became an annual tribute to all musical teachers who touched people’s lives through the art of music. You can experience this too during the holidays when they’re usually conducted if you celebrate Christmas here in Naples, Florida.

Tips:

  • In one of the shopping malls in downtown Naples you can find a huge and tall Christmas tree decorated with Christmas lights that give you that Christmas vibe and remind you to put on a Frank Sinatra in your headphones.
  • There is another enormous Christmas tree in Third Street South that is brightened with lights and other enhancements that pleases the eyes. There is always something that’s being celebrated in Third Street South and it only gets better in Christmas time. There is a tree lighting ceremony that happens each year here, as well, yet it is different night than the others.
  • There is an open-air shopping center that has loads of food, lights, and shopping opportunities. There are additionally occasion musical exhibitions and other festivities after Thanksgiving until the end of the year.
  • There is a residential community and is a well known place for local people because most homes get decorated with lights and Christmas displays.
