Have you just started learning how to paddle a kayak and are interested in honing your water navigation skills? That’s perfect, because we know of a river in central Florida that are frequented by beginners in canoeing and kayaking. It’s called Peace River and it can be found somewhere east of Sarasota.  As the name suggests, the Peace River has placid waters as well as beautiful sceneries that would make you kayaking trip a pleasant experience. The paddling course is very easy that’s why you can regularly see boys and girl scouts, families and even church groups, generally people who rarely go outdoor camping.

The Peace River is very easy to navigate. There’s just the right amount of current so that you won’t need to paddle hard and there are no narrow corners that require tricky maneuvering. Thus, the river is quite inviting to people who are new into kayaking. The best thing about the Peace River is that it’s got ancient cypress trees that seem to reach the sky and mighty oak trees and on the river banks will be small alligators and on the branches, a wide variety of birds. First time kayakers should get a good sense of what being close to nature feels like when paddling along the river and perhaps be even inspired by the beauty of the natural environment to make them explore more parks and sanctuaries.

Kayaking trips can last for as long as 12 miles but you can go for shorter options if that floats your boat. Within those 12 miles, you should be able to see all the amazing plant and wildlife that benefit from the river, which includes deer, snails and alligators. The birds that can be spotted include Red-Tailed hawks, kingfishers, wild turkey, wild boar and turkey vultures. The trees and vegetation that you will encounter include cypress trees that are hundreds of years old, knobby trees with hanging moss about them and the abundant palm trees. Even the dead drift wood you can occasionally see on the riverbanks provide this close-to-nature feel that’s so alluring.

If you look hard enough the riverbanks, you could see fossils of animals that lived in the area millions of years ago. If you’re lucky, you can find shark teeth which probably are at least a million years old, give or take. Many of the fossils that were found in the area were from marine life that date as far back as 26 million years ago. The Peace River is a highly recommended vacation idea for people who are new to outdoor excursions. If you’re looking for something new to try this summer, then this might just be for you.
